Rat & Frog Dissection

Labels: ,

On the 22nd of April 2010, DOT Club has finally organized their first dissection of the year! The activity which took place at Biology Lab 5, received overwhelming response from the supportive DOT Club members, and the total number of students who participated mounted up to fifty-six. The students, who were a mixture of both CAL and SAM students, were eager and excited to begin the dissection of frogs and mice as they registered and collected their gloves at the registration booth which was set-up outside of the lab prior to the activity.

The students entered the lab at 4:30 p.m. Before the dissection began, DOT Club's Teacher Advisors, Miss Jee Yin Koh and Miss Tan Ai Nee proceeded to the front of the lab to briefly explain the procedures of the dissection. After that, the dissection began. The students worked in pairs, and each pair were either dissecting a frog or a mouse. A total of 12 frogs and 11 mice were dissected altogether. The students slowly cut open the bodies and took out the organs from the frogs and mice. Then, they identified and carefully analysed each one of them, such as the heart, liver, lungs and intestines.

All in all, DOT Club's first dissection was a success, all thanks to the enthusiastic members, all whose spirits and passion were not too hard to notice. Not forgetting , our helpful and encouraging teacher advisors, Miss Jee Yin Koh & Miss Tan Ai Nee. This day has undoubtedly marked a history in the students' lives – as a day where their journey to pursuing Medicine begins. This activity was undeniably beneficial for them as they had not only managed to gain more knowledge and learn new facts, but they have also acquired skills, patience and disciplines of successful doctors of tomorrow. :)
